Catholic Church on Marriage  Support of Amendment 2
This amendment will define marriage in our state’s constitution as the legal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife. As evidenced in our 2005 statement, Marriage is Between One Man and One Woman, the bishops of Florida have supported this proposal throughout the initiative petition process.

 Brother Knights,

It is again that time of year.  The leaves have begun to turn and the frost is in the air.  Well at least I've heard it's like that somewhere.

But warm weather and surfing Santa's aside, the Christmas Tree's will soon be here.  Brother Don Winterich will soon be contacting everyone to fill the staffing for the tree sales.  Please try to be as generous with your time as you can.  With the economy in it's current state, I expect this will be a challenging year for tree sales.  We will focus more than ever on the charity aspect of the sales.  We are also going to have a special visit from Santa at the lot this year.

On to the call for help-  I am planning on getting the lot built on the weekend of November 15th.  All able bodies are appreciated- as well as all 18volt cordless drills.  We will have a lot of screws to put in, and the more the merrier.  I will be ready to go by 9 am on Saturday, so all help is appreciated.  I am also going to be moving the wood to the lot on Friday the 14th.  We don't need as many people that day, but it will be some manual labor to get the wood on to a truck, drive it to the lot, and take it off.  I'll start that up at 9am as well, but we'll meet on Friday at the Church (on the road to the rectory).

Thanks in advance for your help, the trees arrive on the 29th and we'll hope for another great year.

 God Bless,

 Mike MacKay

Photos Needed

Brothers,

Part of any consideration for recognition by the State is the fact that we have a website and a photo album.  However, of late unless I have attended an event I am not getting any photos to keep our On Line Photo Album current.

I would appreciate some photos I can use with a simple explanation as to who took the photos, where and when.

Your assistance will be gratefully appreciated.

Frank

THE THANKS IS IN GIVING THE GIFT OF LIFE

Insurance Field Agent
Christopher Avola

Believe it or not, the holiday season is upon us. A popular movie, shown often this time of year, is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” In it, the lead character played by Jimmy Stewart), in a moment of desperation proclaims “it  would have been better if I had never been born.” His “guardian angel” then gives him the opportunity to see how much different the lives of his friends and family would have been had he, in fact, never been born.

None of us will have that opportunity. But, like George Bailey, we do have a positive impact on the lives of our friends, our families, and those in our communities. We do this through our membership in the Knights of Columbus, by volunteering in our Churches and communities and, not  insignificantly, by making sure we have enough life insurance.

Life insurance will allow your family to remain in their home, and maintain their lifestyle, if something should happen to you. It will guarantee a college education for your children, or even your grandchildren. It will ensure a comfortable retirement for you and your wife. It can even help your favorite charity to continue its humanitarian work.

No doubt about it – being an insured member of the Knights of Columbus helps make this a “wonderful life.” Make sure your family has everything they’ll need.

Unlike George Bailey, you won’t get a second chance to give the gift of life insurance.

Standard & Poor's and AM Best Give Knights of Columbus Their Top Ratings

Once again in 2008, both Standard & Poor's and AM Best gave the Knights of Columbus their very best ratings, AAA (Extremely Strong) and AA+ (Superior), respectively. The K of C is one of only five insurance companies in North American to receive top ratings from S&P and AM Best, as well as certification by the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association.

Potpourri from the Grand Knight:

Dale Saunders

10/15/08

Potpourri from the Grand Knight November already? Seems impossible! I’m beginning to feel like a Rip Van Winkle awakening from his nap, except I have not been sleeping, what we have accomplished since July has been for real.

Special Olympics involved some 65-75 brothers, family and youth volunteers during August/September. Membership retention, new member recruitment, and our new Vocations fundraiser, Fantasy Football raffle consumed much of October. Other events sandwiched in were the Pro Life Chain, a new youth Soccer Challenge project, Corporate Communion, Information Night, First Degree and the KC Fish/Corn booth at the HNJ School Festival!

Now here we are gearing up for the Holidays, Tree Lot, Bible on Parade and the Grand Knights Christmas Social. First, Tree Lot Chair, Dr. Mike advises the “Big Build” will be Saturday, November 15 (8AM-4PM) at the same 2nd Avenue/A1A lot location in Indialantic as last year. A sizeable force of able bodied workers will be needed to construct/erect the tree corral. Please try to be available for whatever time you can volunteer. More on this later, but for now, you securing the date is a first step!

Also, particularly you newer members, please remember the name Don Winterich, he handles the calls to fill out the various tree lot sales shifts. It’s a big job, and you can help by promptly CALLING HIM BACK when you get his message, then scheduling whatever time you can give. I know how valuable everyone’s spare time is, but please emember this is the primary fundraiser upon which we operate our council’s good works!

Second major date for this project is Saturday, November 29, when the trees arrive. Again, as many members, teens, visitors, etc., that we can manage on that day will get those 72’ trailers unloaded and the lot opened for business just that much faster. This is always a fun occasion and when the trailer doors open you feel the coldness and know immediately that the Christmas season has arrived.

For the seasonally interested, it’s not unusual to find some snow to be packed in with the trees. Bible on Parade, Saturday, December 6 is another event good for youngsters and family participation. The event encompasses the various books of the Bible, in parade format, in biblical costume depicted by ecumenical church communities throughout Melbourne, with sizeable participation from HNJ, and our Pastor Fr Page. This is the only such parade like this in any major US city. It is not a Christmas parade, and you will be amazed at the spiritual reception from those along the route.

Chairman Don Zinkiewicz had already formatted this year’s event however as most of you know has been military reassigned a new duty station in sunny California, and we now need someone to take this event over. It’s primarily a one day deal and if you could take over, please talk with either DKG Rick Broderick or I for details!

And as unbelievable as it sounds, we move to the Grand Knights Christmas Social! Some new wrinkles and a change of Day & Venue. Grab your wife, date, or come alone; and show up FRIDAY, December 19 for some Christmas Cheer and seasonal toast with your brothers.

Full details are outlined elsewhere, however a very special “thanks” to Aaron & Sephia Royer for arranging this year’s function to be held at the Clubhouse in the Cloisters, which offers handicap facilities, including parking accommodations that can be reserved if requested. If you would like to contribute “that” special holiday treat, Hors d’oeuvres or snack, please let either Mary Broderick or Sue Saunders know when you RSVP. Hopefully scheduling somewhat later in December might lend itself to a little more Christmas spirit as well as allowing us to have the Tree Lot experience behind us. Dr Mike is promising to sell out again and close things down by the 17th!

Peace and God Bless,

Dale
